Reigate & Banstead is a relatively affluent and prosperous area. There are four main towns:  Reigate, Redhill, Banstead and Horley, together with a range of smaller settlements - all of which have very different characters and histories.



The borough has a variety of natural landscapes, which support a wide range of biodiversity interests, from the North Downs on the edge of outer London (largely included within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and currently designated as an Area of Great Landscape Value), to the Low Weald in the south bordering West Sussex.
